The Glass Bridge (Grand Canyon Skywalk)

The Grand Canyon is a much sought after tourist place, and one of the greatest natural wonders in the world. But few people know how high the place is. The description talks about the attraction, and there are pictures detailing the description. One interesting picture compares it with all the tallest buildings in the world.

There is a glass bridge that has been built, and it allows the viewers to walk over that and enjoy the experience of the canyon. The pictures cover the glass bridge from all angles and one can see how intimidating the height is. There is also a brief description about the tourist attraction, and details about the bridge.

The pictures and description are useful to those who have not visited the place, and also to those who are interested in geographical locations. They have been presented with an artistic feel with good strokes.

These pictures and information is also very important, as not too many people know much about the Grand Canyon before they visit the place. The height comparison is the most stunning aspect of this collection of pictures.

Glass Bridge will be suspended 4,000 feet above the Colorado River on the very edge of the Grand Canyon. On May 2005, the final test was conducted and the stucture passed engineering requirements by 400 percent, enabling it to withstand the weight of 71 fully loaded Boeing 747 airplanes (more that 71 million pounds).

The bridge will be able to sustain winds in excess of 100 miles per hour from 8 different directions, as well as an 8.0 magnitude earthquake within 50 miles. More than one million pounds of steel will go into the construction of the Grand Canyon sky walk.

---------------------------------

Fort Boyard ... Amazing

Marvelous fort lies in France and takes water from all sides, like an island. Been in the past and is still one of the most beautiful buildings in the world, used these days in TV shows, the Arabs also share in this field through LBC group

Fort Boyard is a fort located between the Île-d'Aix and the Île d'Oléron in the Pertuis d'Antioche straits, on the west coast of France.
The construction of the fort had already been considered since the completion of the arsenal in 1666, but Vauban famously advised Louis XIV against it saying "Sir, it would be easier to catch the moon with the teeth than take on such an endeavour in such a location".
The fort was actually started under Napoleon in 1801, in order to protect the coast (and especially the arsenal of Rochefort) from possible incursions by foreign (and especially British) navies. At that time, cannons only had a limited range, and the distance between the two islands of Aix and Oleron was too large to block the passage.
Following difficulties in establishing a firm base (stone blocks had to be installed on the sandy sea bed during low tide but they still sank under their own weight) the project was adjourned in 1809. Construction started again in 1837 under Louis-Philippe, following renewed tensions with Great Britain, and was completed in 1857.
Fort Boyard had a complement of 250 men. It is 61 metres long, 31 metres wide, and its walls are 20 metres high.
By the time of its completion however, the range of cannons had markedly increased, making the Fort unnecessary.
Under the Commune, the fort was converted to a prison, before being abandoned a few years later. Over time the Fort slowly crumbled and deteriorated into the sea as it was left unmaintained.
